Anthony's Gourmet Pizza

This is some seriously good pizza. As someone who has been a slave to the big three for years (Domino's, Papa John's, Little Caesar's), it was really exciting to have non-formulaic pizza for once. The pizza was a little different than most, with the sauce on top - maybe that's Chicago style? Anyway, under the sauce were layers of pepperoni, mushroom and black olive, and lots and lots of cheese. The crust was delicious, and I have never had pizza that was so hearty. I could only eat a piece and a half. Also, the special we ordered included an awesome Greek salad and a two-liter, for the low low price of... $27.50. Ouch. It was good, though, and I think when all was said and done we got two dinners and three lunches out of it, so in the long run, the price wasn't so bad. If you come visit Ann Arbor and have a hankering for pizza, Anthony's should be your destination.

From my one big visit to Chicago, your pizza needs to be at least 2.5 inches thick to be "chicago-style". Like a pie, darlin'.

ps thanks for the figs, check thesamethingwedoeverynightpinky, when are you going to grade my girlfriend's funky dance, and yippeee! you link to my site!

um...not all chicago pizza has to be made that way dear followers of Naivehelga. But it certainly is tasty! Also, contrary to popular belief Chicago's best pizza does NOT come from "Uno's" or "Gino's East". It comes from either Lou Malanati's or my personal fav "Lucky Vito's". Not only because of LV's great pizza but because they also deliver to my apartment in the ghetto out in Chi-town.Loves it!

Lou Malanati's does rock from what I hear. I have been here two years and never tried it. Not all Chicago pizza is made that way, but if it is Chicigo style you want, those are the rules, straight up!

I'm jealous of all the pizza places. We just have chains here. Nothing fancy like you are describing. I wish we had that here!

Perhaps a Pizza Travelogue is in order, as we are a scattered but jetsetting lot. Had a good pizza somewhere? Got a local favorite? Share with the group! My L.A. recommendation: Alessi (on Highland in Hancock Park.) Thin crust in the SoCal fashion, with delectable toppings...try the prosciutto and you'll be in heaven. Avoid all "New York"-style joints in L.A. at all costs, for that way lies bitter disappointment. All of them.
