Tios Mexican Cafe

I had a hankering for Mexican food, so last night we ordered take-out from Tios. As a former resident of west Texas, I consider myself to be somewhat of a connoisseur of Mexican food, and this was my first attempt at Mexican in Ann Arbor... and it was awful. Everything tasted like it came out of a can and got warmed up in a microwave. The refried beans were nasty (and usually, the beans are my favorite part) and I couldn't even eat the rice, it was so bad. Nothing was hot enough or spicy enough. Everything had a sort of red tint to it, but not in a good way, more like in a greasy pre-packaged food way. My cheese enchilada was okay - it did the job of putting food in my tummy - but the cheese was nasty clumpy. And we didn't even get free chips and salsa. Never again. Tios gave us a menu with our takeout, but we threw it away.

Tios - D (a few points for speed of delivery)

There is Mexican resturant in Royal Oak or Birmingham that your brother and I liked. It has been my experience that eat-in Mexican is always better than take out. Unless, of course, you are talking about Ted's Escondido in Oklahoma City. I hate it when I'm psyched for a specific food and when I get it, it sucks. Were you old enough to remember La Placita in Old Town Albuquerque? I know you remember Tinnie's Double Eagle in Las Cruces. Good times.

Try Sabor Latino - there's one at Main & Huron (I think), although I don't know that they deliver. Mark & other people I know from places where Mexicans actually live have given Sabor Latino good marks as far as mexican food in A2 goes.

I love it when peoples' dads use the word "Suck." I think we should officially take "suck" off the bad word list... for people over the age of 13, at least...

Come to Chicago, we have some good Mexican eats here. From your divey corner taqueria, to Topolabampo, one of the best Mexican restaurants in the country (so I hear, I am too poor to go there). But, sometimes, I love even bad Mexican food. Ole!

Hey, I liked it even better that Mr. Strong said "psyched."

Charlie, don't forget Taco Burrito Palace. Nothing rounds out a night of heavy drinking like a li'l TBP in your tum tum.

And he used "sucks" and "psyched" in the same sentence... I love you, Dad!
