Brokeback Mountain

It was really, really good. Probably one of the best movies I've seen this year (by year, I mean awards year, since the last Oscars). First of all, the cinematograpy was outstanding. You really get a sense of the loneliness of these two guys simply based on the landscape. Brokeback Mountain will most certainly win the best cinematography Oscar. Also, the music was wonderful - simple and slightly haunting, and perfectly evocative again of the loneliness Ennis and Jack feel whether they're together or apart.
But you don't want to hear about the cinematography and music, you want to hear about the acting. Well, Heath Ledger was outstanding. He's totally deserving of all the accolades he's been getting. He's so reserved in this role that when he gets worked up, it's heartwrenching. Jake Gyllenhaal is also wonderful. He's got this spunky thing going on, so when he gets beaten down by life, it's wonderfully painful. And Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway are just superb. Everyone's been talking about the moment when Alma, Michelle's character, makes the disocvery about her husband, and in that moment, she took my breath away. She might be my new pick for Best Supporting Actress Oscar.
I hope that when you see this movie, you don't have a bad audience, like I did. I had some really shitty girls behind me, giggling through the sex scenes and laughing at inappropriate times; at the end, one girl actually said, "Was I the only one sitting there twiddling my thumbs wondering when this was going to be over?" Yes, yes you were, you stupid cow.

I can't wait to see this movie. I've heard nothing but good things about it. It still hasn't come out here though. Why do people go see movies if they are going to be offended by them? Do they not realize what the storylines are about? I mean, do people really have that much money that they're willing to pay full price for a movie they know nothing about? Dumbasses.

i saw it in what i would consider to tbe the BEST place possible. the AMC here in NYC on 42nd street. the audience was amazing, cept one man who LITERALLY began snoring during the opening scene and slept ALL THE WAY THROUGH. i agree 100% with you amanda, when alma made her discovery (as not to ruin it for those who havent seen it)my heart broke for her.

Somewhat off-topic anecdote: a friend and I were out at a movie a few years back, and there was an elderly couple seated two rows in front of us. This gentleman started nodding off shortly after the film started...no big deal, old guy probably just needed a nap, right? Well, apparently this was too much for his companion to take. She started SLUGGING him on the arm, shout-whispering "Wake up! You are an embarassment! I'm sick of this shit...every time we go anywhere!" And this happened three or four times over the course of the movie!

Yay for Michelle Williams. She won the Critic's Choice award for this film, in a tie with Amy Adams of Junebug, last night.

Let me also take the time to congratulate the cast of Crash and Terrence Howard (for Hustle and Flow) for their awards last night as well.

Before there's any backlashing corrections, let me add that the Crash cast won for BEST ACTING ENSEMBLE and Terrence Howard won for BEST SONG from Hustle and Flow, which he co-wrote with Al Capone.

OK. That does it.

I need to go out and see the film this weekend. I've been trying to find someone who wants to see it with me, but for some reason no one does.

One of my friends actually said she would prefer to see the new Johnny Knoxville movie instead, if you can believe that.

No can do on that.
