My Tirade on Local Radio

Today is November 2. Thanksgiving is three weeks away. It's not even Veterans' Day. And yet, 100.3 in Detroit has started to play all Christmas music. Over fifty days until the big holiday, and I'm already hearing Amy Grant's wacky version of O Come All Ye Faithful and the Drifters singing I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas. It's too early, folks. Now, I am not a Scrooge - I love Christmas, and I've done a little pre-shopping (where you think about what you want to get people), and yesterday I contemplated buying Christmas cards, but it is too early to hear nothing but Christmas music on the radio. Please, wait until after Thanksgiving.

On the plus side, I have a new favorite radio station - one I discovered when I was scanning for something to replace 100.3. Good times.

Christmas music before Thanksgiving - D-

yeah, i guess that's understandable. although there is this amazing version of "joy to the world" that i listen to throughout the year. it's just that good.
but what about bronner's being open year round? or maybe that's different... what if there was a station that played christmas music year round? now that would be sick.

Oh Holy Nightmare!! Bright and early on November 1st (the candy hangovers hadn't even been diagnosed yet) the men were up their cherry pickers hanging Christmas lights from all the parking lights at the mall... I've already heard "Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time" twice... I'm already over it. Why must they steal my holiday spirit almost two months before the holiday? It's their fault I turn into a Scrooge!!!

I'm with you. I hate all of the Xmas junk, especially the music! Grandma Bancroft and I went to K-mart last Sunday just to look.(Her favorite thing to do from her wheelchair.) Lots of on sale Halloween candy, one aisle with Thanksgiving stuff, and rows and rows of Christmas. We marveled at the giant plastic snowglobe with a snow flurry for the front yard. Only 200 bucks. I would have screamed if "White Christmas" had been playing. So much for going to K-Mart for awhile. Yuck!

I sometimes listen to Christmas music in the summer(love me Mariah's Christmas CD...did I just admit to that?) because it puts me in a good mood. However, I listen to it by choice. I hate when Christmas is forced on you everywhere you go for months before the season. I believe I already wrote about this on my blog though.

I have discovered the perfect antidote to Christmas cheer. It's called "poverty."

Top 5 Xmas Radio Songs:
1. "Christmas Rapping" - The Waitresses

2. "Happy Christmas (War is Over)" - John Lennon

3. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" - Coldplay

4. "2000 Miles" - Pretenders

5. "The Chanukah Song" - Adam Sandler
