Unbelievable in Seattle

Remember in Sleepless in Seattle when Tom Hanks tells his son that his dead wife used to be able to peel an apple in one long strip? And then later we see Meg Ryan doing the exact same thing?

That's horseshit! No one can peel an apple in one strip! I peeled four apples yesterday - I made a delightful apple crumble and it is super yummy - and not a single apple peel came off in one long strip. And trust me, I know how to peel. I've peeled a lot of things in my day: apples, potatoes, carrots, anything else that might need to be peeled, you name it. I'm a pro at peeling. And there is no way Meg or the dead wife peeled an apple in one long strip. It can't be done. And if it can, then it truly is magical and Tom and Meg were meant to be together.

I still believe it can be done! I have never done it, but I believe that the magic of love can make it happen . . . . or something.

yeah, i've done it too. and i always thought that it was the reason i am single. be that as it may, never trust anything meg ryan says. no matter how cute it might seem on a bumper sticker.

I've gotten pretty close, but the problem is you have to take off a lot of actual apple besides just the peel to make sure you don't cut through on accident

I don't peel apples, so I've never tried it. I can peel an orange in one long strip though. Does that count for anything.

Yeah, that "I've peeled alot of things in my life" part threw me too. I remember the days of blenders left to their own devices... While filled with sugary liquid... In Arkansas...

I do believe it is possible. I also believe that if you do it you will only have approximately 80% left of the apple to eat.

I believe that peeling apples has nothing to do with compatability.

Unless we're talking about the other kind of apples.

Amanda, tell me the story of you getting your fingers caught in an automatic closing Cadillac trunk.

I've done it, too! Actually, I find it's easier if you don't get too much apple with the skin, because then the peeled part gets too heavy and breaks. I also peeled a clementine in one piece the other day. Perhaps I need to get out more...

I definatly believe it can still be done.

I didnt think it was possible that you could make an apple crumb thing...seriously? I'm impressed.

Can you peel and orange in one peel?

I can.
