OK, not on purpose or anything, but damn! You'd think that a guy who could shoot a quail could avoid shooting a person, right? Lucky for Harry (the millionaire attorney that Dick shot) that the veep is in kind of poor health, and has an ambulance on call, so he got some instant medical attention. Also, good thing they were shooting quail and not, oh, I don't know, elephants? 'Cause that probably would have really, really hurt.

I was at a bar when a blurb came on the muted TV under Cheney's picture that said "ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING." Not knowing the circumstances, the first thing that went through my mind was, "It had better have been through the heart with a silver bullet."
I was so excited to hear the details of this story when I first heard he shot someone earlier today. It's kind of disappointing. If the vp shots someone, I want there to be scandal and death involved. That makes for a better story afterall.
Where to begin? Why should we expect a guy who got five deferments from Vietnam due to "other priorities" to know how to handle a gun?
Maybe he thought he was aiming at Scooter Libby.
And, of course, now we find out that Cheney didn't bother to get the $7 hunting permit required by law. And really, why should he start caring about following the law NOW?
PLUS, we also now find out that Cheney and his hunting party had been doing some of their shooting from a car! Now, this is legal in Texas, but it's tacky as hell, as any conscientous hunter will tell you. But once again, why expect a high level of ethical conduct from a "hunter" who goes on canned hunts and shoots 50-75 pheasant at a time? (Whatever happened to killing no more than you can eat, Dick?)
I really believe that the Cheney shooting is a Rosetta Stone for understanding how little regard the Bushies have for human life and basic decency.
I think it figures that Cheney shot someone on accident. I'm not against guns or anything. I know how to shoot firearms and all about firearm safetey. Maybe I should write him a letter about
safety . . . .lol
