O...I remembered another Staten Island Ferry story. On that same trip, I encountered a middle-aged guy taking a shell-shocked looking young asian girl across. "It's America, baby, don't you wanna see America?" The only word I can think of to describe the experience is "glorious." Coming up to the island on that crisp spring morning, Statue of Liberty smiling from the west, WTC twin towers gleaming like nickled goalposts of capitalism...it was perfect. Somewhere, I thought I heard a saxophone playing. Glad you got to do it too, albeit with a sadly different skyline to greet you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
